There are a few ways to describe ONMAE, but the ones that usually stick are ‘startup boutique’, ‘startup atelier’ and ‘startup kobo’. (Kobo, simplified to kobo, is the Japanese word for ‘workshop’)
These terms appropriately reflect what we do at ONMAE.
Whatever you wish to call it, ONMAE is a place where startups are built and developed. We partner with founders and companies to build, validate, and scale ventures, from early concept to market traction and beyond.

ONMAE’s Background
2015: Market Entry
ONMAE was born as a natural evolution of LYNX, a small consultancy business started by the same founder, Sesto Keisuke Ueda, in 2015.

2017: Consultancy and Advisory
At LYNX, Sesto initially focused on supporting non-Japanese SMEs with all operations that usually accompany a business’ entry into a foreign market and vice-versa: localization, translation, interpretation, and advisory. Building on this first-hand experience, LYNX later incorporated services to include marketing, expanding its scope to become gradually more and more involved in the establishment of businesses into their target market: Japan for foreign businesses, and Western countries for Japanese corporates.

2018: Marketing
The inclusion of advisory on strategy, both in marketing operations and more practical matters such as meetings and partnerships, gave a more specific role to LYNX in the active building of business connections between countries.

2019: Startups
While building direct experience in the world of business expansion, Sesto was also widely exposed to the reality of global startups in Japan through KIEC, a local community for foreign entrepreneurs. Volunteering as a co-organizer for KIEC, he conducted researches to gain a deep understanding of the local entrepreneurial landscape, its specific opportunities and challenges, and how to juggle with priorities unique to the Kansai region or, sometimes, Japan.

2026: The creation of ONMAE
Expanding the network of consultants, advisors, experts, builders and supporters, ONMAE was built with a main goal: to create a collaborative environment in which global startups can be created and developed regardless of existing connections.
Leveraging the practical value of the dense network of partners, despite appearing as a single corporate, ONMAE provides a place where ideas can be developed into real businesses through the synergy of creators, business developers, and builders.
